Publisher, writer, label owner and producer Alan Bethrock died in New York at the age of 49. Two months ago he had been diagnosed with cancer.
Guitarist Lenny Cain from the group Patti Smith described Bethrock in the following way: "He was a good person. I was always impressed by his approach to things he wouldn't have otherwise undertaken."
In 1975 Bethrock formed the magazine "New York Rocker." Despite this he continued to be published in the fan magazines "Jamz" and "The Rock Marketplace." Alan also created his own label- Shake Records, which put out the early works of Marshall Crenshaw. Later Bethrock became a producer. He worked with Blondie, Richard Hell and on the Voidoids' album "Destiny Street."
