The only church in the world named after Saint John Coltrane will apparently be closed in April. This religious group had formed in 1972, and in 1982 had joined the African Orthodox Church. Since then, the church was located in San Francisco. The patron saint was chosen by the founder and irreplaceable bishop Frenzo King to be the famous saxophonist, John Coltrane. Every church service is accompanied by jazz music, which often includes the participation of the bishop himself, while anyone who wants has the opportunity to come up for a thirty-minute improvisation. The church is dedicated to helping to local poor and homeless. In the recent past, however, the church has been going through some serious problems. It can no longer afford to keep up with the rent of the San Francisco building, while the city is on its way to becoming the most expensive in America. The church is under threat of eviction starting April 1. It will be able to hold Easter liturgy on April 23, but afterwards the eviction will be final. Bishop Frenzo King, however, and his followers are full of faith and optimism, hoping that God (or Coltrane) will perform a miracle and help the followers.
