The 20th annual Budapest spring festival has opened in the capital of Hungary. This year it is dedicated to the 1000 anniversary of the establishment of the Hungarian government. The program includes 144 events in Budapest alone and 150 performances in other major cities of the country.
The festival traditionally takes place in March, before any of the other corresponding festivals over Europe. The theme of the Hungarian millennium, according to the planners, will be the central focus this time. Festival guests will be able to get to know the works of Hungarian composer Peter Etvesza. The program will include the premier of his opera based on Chekhov's play "Three Sisters." The opera is produced by Oscar-nominee and famous Hungarian film director Isztvan Sabo.
The current festival will continue until April 3.
