Ensemble 4'33" was founded in 1994 by Alexey Aigi and Yulia Bederova. The basis of ensemble's policy is shifting of the stereotypes of audience's perception of modern music. Thanks to unusual repertoire and exceptional cast 4'33" has occupied its own spot in Russian musical landscape. It performs in academic concert halls (like Moscow Conservatoire) and in musical clubs as well ("Dom", "Territoria" etc.).
Alexey Aigi's Ensemble (some people prefer putting it like this) was the first in Russia to perform compositions written by Johnny Cage, Morton Feldman, Terry Raily, Toru Takemitzu, Frederic Rzhevsky, La Monte Young, Tom Johnson, Steve Marthland etc.
Several Russian composers, like Vladimir Martynov, Anton Batagov. Pavel Karmanov, composed exclusively for 4'33".
"Ensemble..." has performed certain projects with representatives of different arts: poets Rubinstein and Prigov, novelist Andrew Bitov, folk duet "NeTe", DJs, jazz and classic acts.
This must be the only Russian band that regularly supports such projects as "Silent cinema - live music", sound-tracking several silent cinema classics.
The leader of the ensemble, Alexey Aigi, is one of the most active composers of Russia. Along with concert compositions he's written soundtracks for four silent movies and several modern movies, "Golden Aries" winner "Strana gluсhih" by Valery Todorovsky among them. In addition to working in 4'33", Aigi also performs with "Russian-German quartet" of composers.
