The release that should have become the most eclectic of all "Aquarium" albums turned to be the most successful one. Bright and cheerful, full of musical and poetical quotations - unmistakable Grebenshikov's style, - with perfect arrangements and cool sound, "Day of Silver" was, according to the leader of the band, "an absolute victory". It appeared to be the first "Aquarium" album that was recorded professionally. Music was faultless, but some critics kept saying that lyrics were too complicated. All those meditative rhythms and quotations - from Apolliner ("the water still flows under the Mirabo bridge"), Tolkien ("the one who've seen the City does not need your Ring"), Yi Zing and Bob Dylan - well, all this stuff sometimes seemed really weird but it was absolutely natural for "Aquarium".
After "Day of Silver" the band became something more than a legend, even more than a rock-icon. This release was the reason for rock-fans to say: "BG (- Boris Grebenshikov's nickname) is a God, look, he's shining with some divine light". And BG was right when he included a song "I'm scared to move ahead" into "Day of Silver". It was really scaring to move ahead after such a perfect album, so Grebenshikov decided to move some other way.
