Brian McLaughlin, the managing director of HMV Europe, one of the biggest music retailers, has threatened to ban records by artists which are available over the Net before they arrive in the shops. He said that retailers should not support the release of albums which people can download onto their PCs before their 'official' launch date. His comments followed David Bowie's decision to allow people in the US to download his new album, 'Hours', two weeks before the CD went on sale in record stores.
