There are things better left unspoken. For example, do we need to talk about the legend? Especially about a rock-legend? It's almost impossible to explain to anyone who knows nothing about 'Urfin Juice' band why we call it 'a rock-legend'. 'UD' appeared in 1980 in Sverdlovsk, and was probably one of the most interesting bands in the USSR of that time. Named after a character of a fantasy book, 'UD' had nothing to do with fairy tales. 'A Travel' was the first 'UD' album. In the booklet we can read: 'Please take into consideration the time and the conditions of this recording'. So don't expect anything extraordinary from 'A Travel'. This album was recorded in 1981, and we can feel it: there is certain komsomol animation in the voice of Alexander Pantyckin, 'UD' leader; music is straighforward, arrangements are poor. 'A Travel' seems to be a real child of its time. So is there any point of talking about a legend? Well, there is. The main thing about 'UD' is the atmosphere. Good old hard'n'heavy provokes nostalgic dreams. Amateur texts, full of home-made philosophy ('I feel like I'm in the desert in this city... It just means that soon everything will be over'), makes us remember the Golden Age of russian rock, when it was truly existensial but in the same time didn't seem banal. Besides, the band was created by 'grandfather of Ural rock' Alexander Pantyckin and the texts were written by Ilya Kormiltsev (who later wrote texts for another rock-legend - 'Nautilus Pompilius'). 'A Travel' is the first Kormiltsev's poetic experience, not a very succesful one. Still that was a fair beginnig. Today 'A Travel' sounds unexpectedly cool, especially for those who appreciate memories of the past.
