Among the Russian Bards series there is now a Nikitin anthology, and just in time. This year the television channel "Culture" ran a series of "evenings" featuring the Nikitin duo (Sergei Nikitin and his wife, Tatyana), which included practically the entire collection of Nikitin's compositions, performed in the Bulat Okudzhava Museum House last summer. And the first thing that comes to mind when one listens to any of the two collections is the place that Nikitin has in Russian music culture of the last 25 years- that of nothing less than a hit-maker. The quantity (and quality) of songs composed by Sergei Nikitin exceeds that of many professional Russian composers, whether in the Soviet or post-Soviet era. It is surprising that such musical intuition can belong to a person whose musical occupation is not his profession- to a "dilettante," as would be said in the last century. The disk contains songs that everyone knows, while it lacks some that are very important to the work of the author (for example, the children's songs). Also, like other disks in the Russian Bards series, it lacks background information. Nonetheless, it remains interesting- not so much for the older fans of the work of Sergei Nikitin, but those of the younger generation, who should be drawn to Nikitin's talent for transforming poetic intonation into musical.
