The Night

In brief: the recording began in 1985 at Tropillo studio, the album was released in the beginning of 1986. Two years later it was released by 'Melodia'. The song 'Anarchy' was anounced by 'Melodia' as 'parody on Sex Pistols'. After this official release everybody took offence: 'Kino' was offended because Tropillo had not submitted this release to their approval; Tropillo was offended because 'Kino' had taken offence on him. This album was recorde by Tsoi, Kasparyan, Titov, Gurianov, with the participation of Butman, Tropillo (back vocal) and the 'Mladshie bratya' ('Younger brothers') band. Bonus tracks of this album were recorded at Yansheeva studio in 1986, rare version of well-known songs from the next 'Kino' album.

Quots: 'In a year or so after the "Melody' disk was released my wife told me that in one school during the concert devoted to the Great October Revolution a boy sang Tsoi's song 'My mom is anarchy', and nothingh could be said against that, because the song was approved by the Ministry of culture. But 'Kino' is complaining every now and then: this jerk Tropillo had released this disk without having consulted to us... But I think that 'The Night' and especially the song 'Anarchy' made 'Kino' popular'. (Tropillo)

'One can hear stylish sound in this album. We were all mad about 'Duran Duran' at that time... The story with 'The Night' was strange. It seemed to me that Antrop studio had some kind of wrong energy, so this stylish music Victor was playing just did not fit into it. The energy was different. Besides we were recording it similtaneously with the recording of 'Dni serebra' ('The Days of Silver'), and that was totally different album. These two recordings I was participating in impeded each other, and 'The Night' suffered more. (A.Titov)

'Words 'We want to dance' are repeated eight times with such monotonous straighforwardness that I want to say: "Vitya, I'll never beleive that this is the way anyone wants to dance'... They should not name it 'The Night' - this name is convenient because of its abctract power and irresponsibility ('The Citchens', 'The Game', 'The Rain', 'The Morning', 'The Stars' could go well, too) but it made Tsoi to force the album into artificial tendency' (Review in 'Roxy')
